Summary
A collaborative group project to design and develop a website for the Westland Square Building at Trinity College Dublin, focusing on usability, accessibility, and responsive design.
Purpose
To provide clearer information about the building, as many students initially assumed they would be studying on the main Trinity campus rather than in an off-campus location. The project also aims to demonstrate both technical and collaborative competencies by building a responsive and accessible informational website while managing tasks, timelines, and guaranteeing design consistency across multiple contributors.
Key features
- Accessibility validated with WAVE and W3C validator tools
- Embedded downloadable PDFs
- Carousel with quotes from interviewed students
- Hero video compressed for web performance
- Responsive design
My role in the group
As the project manager, I coordinated the team's workflow and drafted most of the project documentation, which was later reviewed by the team. I also designed the majority of the wireframes using Figma and proposed using Bootstrap to ensure a responsive design. In addition, I fully developed the What's Around page, including original content gathering, photography, custom Google Maps embedding, and student interviews for review content. Finally, I conducted accessibility audits using online tools, implementing improvements such as ARIA labels and alternative texts to meet web accessibility standards. I then reviewed the entire site to ensure that all pages matched our wireframes and maintained a consistent aesthetic and user experience.
